About Chiropractic Care

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is an alternative medicine that focuses on the diagnosis as well as the treatment of mechanical maladies of the musculoskeletal system. Chiropractic particularly focuses on the spine and uses various techniques to ensure its proper alignment and efficient functioning. Specialists of chiropractic are known as chiropractors.

Is Pain Associated with Chiropractic Treatments?

Chiropractic adjustments are safe and should be carried out by a licensed chiropractor. Chiropractic adjustments do not cause pain. On the contrary, they result in pain relief. However, some soreness may be experienced after a chiropractic procedure. This soreness gradually disappears.

How Does Chiropractic Work?

Chiropractic is a form of therapy majorly concerned with the structure of the body especially the spine. In chiropractic, chiropractors manipulate the alignment of the body to:

  • Relieve/reduce pain in the body
  • Improve body function
  • Help the body auto-heal Le heal itself)

Other than spinal manipulation, chiropractors may also include other exercises (e.g., manual therapies and postural exercises) to suit the unique need of an individual.

Common Chiropractic Techniques

The Diversified Technique

This widely adopted method involves manually applying pressure on the target vertebral segment to restore mobility. The technique aims to correct spinal misalignment, restore joint function, and ensure appropriate mobility.

Spinal Manipulation

Otherwise known as spinal mobilization uses subtle thrusting motions and stretching to relieve pressure on joints. It also enhances nerve function and reduces inflammation.

Thompson Drop-Table Technique

Just as the name suggests, this technique uses a precision adjusting table. This precision adjusting table helps keep the patient comfortable throughout the procedure as the thrust or pressure is applied.

The Gonstead Adjustment

Developed in 1923, this especially suited method restores maximum mobility and can be administered with the patient sitting or lying.

The Activator Method

This method uses a handheld device called the activator to pass a gentle impulse to the vertebrae of the spine. This method helps correct spinal misalignment and is splendid for pediatric patients.

Flexion-Distraction

This pain-free adjustment technique employs a special table that flexes the spine in a rhythmic pattern.
